Private Lessons

Private lessons are the golden point in your martial arts training. In your private lesson you will receive individual attention from an instructor. This is where most of your learning and advancement will be done. Private lessons are most of your learning and advancement will be done. Private lessons are scheduled at your convenience. Keep in mind that scheduling a private lesson around a group class, although it may be convenient, can sometimes wear on your focus and concentration, especially in children. Try to schedule your private lesson away from group classes if possible. Scheduling your private lesson with one of your classmates who is close to your body type and skill level is also good as you will be able to practice your techniques on them and get feedback from your instructor. Use a notebook to keep a karate journal. Bring it to every class with you and write notes on what you learn and practice.

Group Lessons

Group lessons are generally divided by age and consist of mixed ranks. Group classes are taught with more focus on building skills rather than teaching material. During group classes your instructor may cover concepts, ideas, and proper execution of techniques. Group classes are also fun because you get to make new friends and work out with people you can identify with. Write notes on what you learn and practice in your karate journal every class.
